Here I Am!

A little bit about me, my travels, and adventures in London. Enjoy!

It has been sunny here the passed two days. Before then it rained
almost every day. James and I are slowly unpacking the suitcases we
brought over, as well as James' things from his parents' house. The
boxes we shipped from Michigan should arrive next week. Our flat is
looking like an Ikea showroom. We bought bookcases, dressers,
nightstands from Ikea. I am pretty sure our kitchen and bathroom are
by Ikea as well. The table and chairs have been ordered and should
arrive soon. Once we have everything unpacked, I will post before and
after photos. The views of the river are beautiful, especially at
night.

Work is going well for both of us. My co-workers are great and it is
good to be working with fish again. The lab needed some organizing
which is taking up most of my time for now. I hope to begin
behavioral studies in the next few weeks, as I am to assist the
graduate students with their studies. It takes about 45 minutes
door-to-door for my commute (walk, bus, train, train, walk). Rain and
missed buses have caused a few delays, but people here are flexible
because everyone is in the same boat.

There is so much of London to explore it is overwhelming. I am
working on getting to know our neighborhood, finding a gym, and
joining something (club, volunteer, team) to meet a few more people.
I keep telling myself "Rome wasn't built in a day" (both at work and
home) but I am anxious to be settled. We have been living out of
suitcases since mid-November. I am happy to report, we are not
anymore, but I find having a routine comforting.

We have seen James' friends a few times. It is great to be back in
town with them. They have really welcomed us with open arms. I think
that is making the transition easier too. :) I have plans to go out after work with some other techs next week. There are new neighborhoods to explore!

We hope to have internet installed by next week. We got the
television working yesterday (4 BBC channels) so the radio has been
our entertainment at home so far. Well, that and putting together
Ikea furniture.
