For spring break, James and I went to visit my friend Jenny in Salt Lake City. Jenny and I interned together in Alaska last summer. She is lots of fun and I was super excited to see her. Jenny is a modern dance major, and we were lucky enough to see her during a performance.

We were only on the ground in SLC for 3 days. Day 1 we drove up to Park City (home of the Sundance Film Festival) and spent the day slope side at Park City Resort. Of course, it is huge! The weather was beautiful and sunny. No new snow fell while we were in Utah, but they had a 400 inch base. It was a tough mountain but we conquered it.

We spent the afternoon exploring town. Town was 2 main streets a few blocks long, lined with shops. We got some souvenirs and James bought new boots and bindings for his snowboard. After his board was set up, we has some gelato and spiced cider in a little gift shop. I also bought a bunch of cookie cutters from the same shop in all different shapes (moose, lobster, shamrock, high heel, martini glass). After that we tried to drive back to SLC and to the Great Lake for the sunset. However, the lake is really far away. So we didn't make it.

For dinner, we found a microbrewery called Squatters. The have funny beers, like Polygamy Porter, Provo Girl, and Chasing Tail. Dinner was delish! Then we met with with Jenny and headed to a few bars with her friends after their show.

Friday, we stayed in town and drove up to Snowbird. Again, we were spoiled by gorgeous weather. James was super excited to try out his new gear. We met a guy on the chairlift who was from Michigan and a fellow Spartan. He had been living in Texas for 30 years and made a few trips a year to Snowbird. It was great because he showed us around the mountain. I admit, I had to hustle to keep up with this guy! I would say he was in his 50's or 60's. He skied with us until noon and then left us to meet a friend. Because it hadn't snowed in a while, most of the slopes were a bit skied-off into mogul-like conditions. But we packed in another great day of snowy fun.

From the chairlift!

What a view. This is at one of the gondola peaks. The ski patrol uses dogs, so of course I had to get a few photos of them.
