The girls on the boat just before the fireworks

Everyone who was in the parade

Sockeyes!

Me, Jenny from Utah, and Kayla by the start of the Mens' Mt. Marathon Race

Ready, set, go!

I can't believe I haven't updated my blog since 4th of July. There is so much to tell. Well, 4th of July is HUGE in Seward. Fireworks are always 3th of July at midnight (so technically it is July 4th). The fireworks are kinda crappy because it is still light and they just don't put much money into I think. Jenny from Utah invited us interns out on the boat she works on to watch the fireworks. Earlier in the evening, we went to the bar and I got some pizza with some friends from work.

Wednesday, July 4th, was nuts! There are vendors all over town. The population (usually 3,000) swells to 30,000. The big event is the Mt. Marathon 5k race, which has a 3,000 ft vertical change. I was in charge of the ASLC parade float. I had tons of help from friends, but we made sockeye salmon hats out of cardboard and decorated the rehab truck. We through candy and walked in the parade. We also ran against the parade every once in a while (cuz salmon swin against the current when they return to spawn). Some of the volunteers we hang out with every dressed as salmon eggs!

Technically, I was "at work" on the 4th, but after the parade and cleaning up, I watched some of the Mt. Marathon race and ate my way through town. There was so much good food!

We went back to my apt after the mens race finished up and watched a movie. We also all took catnaps because we were beat. Later, Hobo Jim was playing at the Yukon, but be missed him, so we went to the Alehouse instead.
