I had a great weekend! Friday night I worked at the hotel until 11pm. I met my roomie Nicole out at the Seward Alehouse, where we ran into a bunch of our friends (Travis, Vanessa, Morgan, and Kathy). We stayed played pool, danced and stayed until close. Saturday morning I did some chores before going into the hotel at noon. While I was working, the rain finally stopped and the sun was out! I got off a little early and headed home. My other roommate, Kady, got home the same time I did. We were going to walk down to Small Boat Harbor and get burritos, when we found a note. It was from Sarah and Nicole offering up a night of dinner and a movie. But they were on a hike up on Mt. Marathon. Kady and I decided to walk down to SBH anyways and get some ice cream while we waited. Jenny was on a walk too, so she joined us. The ice cream and sunshine hit the spot!
The gang got back late from their hike, so we ate at about 10pm. Nicole made chicken fettacini from scratch and it was delicious! I didn't eat the chicken, but it was still good. After cleaning up the kitchen we watched Wayne's World. Excellent.
Sunday was my first day off in 18 days. I slept in. Nicole made me an omlette. The dun was shing, again, so I walked down to the grocery store and stocked up on food. Then we went on a 3 hour nature cruise. (Details and pix coming soon!) On the way back from the harbor, we stopped by the hotel for a ride on my friend John's Harley. It was a little nerve-racking. I rode a crotch-rocket once in high school, but that is it. We borrowed a friend's leather jacket and John had an extra helmet. Once I relaxed a little, it was pretty cool. I only went for about 15 minutes, but maybe next time I will get in some high-way miles.
Sunday night was with Hobo Jim at the Yukon. Often referred to as "Alaska's Jimmy Buffet" Hobo Jim was a hoot! Great folk songs about living, fishing, and drinking in Alaska. We got the itch to dance though, and headed to the Alehouse for pool and tunes. I went home about midnight because I had to work on Monday.
Work was normal on Monday. There was sun again! I had softball practice at night. I also recieved 2 postcards! (Thanks Di and Carey.) They were the highlight of my day.
Today was my first day in Stranding/Rescue & Rehab. We currently have 12 animals (all seals, but different species). I mostly cleaned and scrubbed because I am still learning about rehab care. Hopefully soon I can help with feeding and vet care.
Game 2 for the Sea Sluggers tonight! I think I am going to wear my Dice-K shirt. :)
